4th Annual Harvest Dinner – May 1st! | The Green Heart Project

4th Annual Harvest Dinner – May 1st!

Mark your calendars and wet your appetites! Our end of the year festival & fundraiser is set and quickly approaching! And we want to cordially invite you and all of your friends to come out and celebrate with us.

At the end of each spring, we hold our annual Harvest Dinner to honor all of the the hard work our students and Green Heart Buddy volunteers have put into making the year successful and fun! It’s also an opportunity for our friends, families and community to come out, see and enjoy what we’ve been growing all year long, veggies and students alike!

Our Harvest Dinner on May 1st, will be our 4th annual – and is set to be our biggest and best yet! Along with some returning community partners we are excited to add some new ones to make it a true community event for all to enjoy and celebrate.

The Burke High School Culinary Arts program led by Chef Ira Hill and Gullah Cuisine Chef BJ Dennis will be taking charge of the menu to create some delicious garden fresh sides using produce provided by Limehouse Produce and some of our very own, garden-grown veggies! These will be served alongside the infamous Jamie Westendoorf BBQ pork and chicken!

There will be games, prizes and kid-friendly attractions.  A mobile farmers market put on by the Lowcountry Food Bank will be providing fresh produce to all those families that need it.  Live music will be provided by Treehouse Productions in collaboration with some of the members from the Burke H.S. Marching Band. And we will hear from some of our own Mitchell Elementary Green Heart students too!

To kick off National Bike Month, Charleston Moves will be providing a bike valet to all those that want to enjoy a bike ride over to event.  (Do it! Parking is limited!!) Following dinner, they will also be leading a bike tour through Hampton Park on our way over to Taco Boy Downtown for an after-party with live music from International Morality Reggae!

All proceeds from the event will go to supporting the Green Heart Project and the farm-to-school programs we sustain.  And it’s going to be community celebration that you won’t want to miss!
