Traveling Basil Arrives at Huriyali (Part 3)

For the third installment of our traveling basil series, we are heading to one of our long time community sponsors, Huriyali Gardens. Huriyali brings fresh, local, and organic bites to Charleston’s North Central neighborhood. They are mostly known for their cold pressed juices and acai bowls, but they also have savory bites. Our Mitchell Elementary School-grown sweet basil was featured in a savory bite at Huriyali Market, the newest addition to their business!

Huriyali Market had its Grand Opening on August 4th, and business has been booming since. The Market features a coffee, beer, and wine bar along with a grocery that is composed of local products and produce. After you do your shopping and grab a coffee, you can order food from the kitchen. They serve breakfast and lunch and the dishes reflect the mission of Huriyali: bringing fresh, local, and sustainable food to the Lowcountry.

They incorporated our fresh sweet basil into their breakfast bowl. The breakfast bowl is inspired by local and seasonal products, including peaches, sweet corn, and our sweet basil. The base of the bowl is quinoa [a healthy grain alternative] and it is topped with avocado, salsa fresca, a vegan nacho cheese sauce, 2 poached eggs, and of course our sweet basil. There is a lot going on in this bowl, but it all works together. The sweet basil works especially well in contrast to the spicy cheese sauce. It’s a little party in your mouth of flavors and textures that will keep you coming back for more.

We are so happy that our sweet basil found a home at Huriyali. Stay tuned to see where our traveling basil goes next!
