It’s wild to believe that it’s already time to begin hiring for our seventh(!!!) summer of our Youth Internship Program. Throughout the program’s tenure, we’ve been incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful youth employees work with us and, this summer, we’re excited to hire five new Crew Members and a Crew Leader to the team!

Plus, we’re hiring a new Green Heart Apprentice, too!

Each role offers a unique opportunity to manage a network of urban farms and school gardens while gaining essential life and career skills. Whether you are looking to get your hands dirty in the garden for the first time or you’re ready to lead a team, we have a place for you this summer!

Summer 2026 Job Opportunities

All roles are based in Downtown Charleston and involve working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Crew Member

The perfect role for high school students interested in urban agriculture and teamwork.

Pay: $12/hour for new employees; $13/hour for returning employees.
Schedule: June 8 – July 16, 2026 (25 hours/week, Mon–Thu).
Qualifications: Must be 14–18 years old and have completed 9th grade by the start date.
Key Duties: Growing and harvesting crops, assisting at the onsite farm stand, and participating in educational workshops and field trips.

Crew Leader

A leadership role for young adults ready to mentor the next generation of urban farmers.

Pay: $15/hour.
Schedule: June 1 – July 23, 2026 (30 hours/week, Mon-Thu)
Qualifications: 19–25 years old with a high school diploma or GED. Previous leadership experience is preferred.
Key Duties: Leading a team of 5 Crew Members, supervising garden tasks, and co-facilitating educational sessions.

Green Heart Apprentice

Green Heart Apprentice

The Green Heart Apprentice is a 14-month, full-time employment opportunity for a recent high school or college graduate. The Apprentice will provide educational planning & instruction, farming, and community outreach support to The Green Heart Project, having the opportunity to work, learn, and train with our Farm to School and Farm & Gardens teams. The Apprentice will gain practical experience and develop skills in experiential education programs, sustainable agriculture, garden maintenance and nonprofit operations.

Pay: $14-$19 per hour (Plus paid time off and health insurance reimbursement)
Schedule: Temporary position, 14 months | June 1, 2026 – July 31, 2027
