Youth Internship Program – Crew Member

Being a high school level Crew Member in The Green Heart Project Youth Internship Program is more than a job. It’s an opportunity to get paid, have fun, make new friends, spend time outside and help your community. A Crew Member will work with a team of peers to maintain a half acre urban farm in the center of downtown Charleston, located at the William Enston Home. Crew Member farm duties will include: growing, harvesting, and processing fruit and vegetable crops. Additionally, a Crew Member will help run the onsite farm stand by pricing and selling the produce they have grown. These opportunities will allow Crew Members to serve the Charleston community by engaging with their neighbors through the growing and selling of fresh, healthy, and affordable food. Furthermore, Crew Members will engage in daily educational sessions, workshops and community site visits. Through this internship, Crew Members will develop career preparedness, healthy living, and citizenship skills. 

This role is considered a W-2 position and will be compensated at a rate of $7.50/hour (up to 32 hours/week) over 8 weeks with June 15th as its start date. See full program description and job description here.

AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate Youth Internship Program – Crew Leader 

Now accepting AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate applications, to fill our Crew Leader position for The Green Heart Project’s summer Youth Internship Program!

First and foremost, Crew Leaders must be able to build trust, foster engagement, and gain the respect of high school aged crew members. Crew Leaders oversee a team of teenage crew members who maintain a half acre urban farm in the center of downtown Charleston. Crew Leaders guide crew members through their daily farm duties which include: growing, harvesting, and processing fruit and vegetable crops. Crew Leaders support their crew members as they price and sell the produce they have grown to market at an onsite farm stand. Furthermore, Crew Leaders will teach and assist in teaching crew members via daily and weekly educational sessions, workshops and community site visits. Through this internship, Crew Leaders will support crew members as they develop their career preparedness, healthy living, and citizenship skills. Being a Crew Leader for The Green Heart Project Youth Internship Program is more than a job or an internship. It’s an opportunity to positively affect your local community and impact the life of a high school student.

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members bring passion and perseverance where the need is greatest: to organizations that help eradicate poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA – Year Long Position 

Now accepting AmeriCorps VISTA Member  applications, to join our team for the ’20-’21 academic year!

The AmeriCorps VISTA position will focus on the expansion of our inaugural youth development program at Green Heart: a youth internship program for our new Urban Farm at Enston Home. The youth internship program addresses a need for paid employment opportunities and for workforce training among youth in Charleston, while also teaching critical skills in career preparedness, healthy living and citizenship. By expanding and improving upon our pilot year programs, the VISTA member will help to lay the foundation for the success of the program for years to come. The VISTA member will 1) provide evaluation of pilot year programs and continued development of our summer Youth Internship Program, including the development of new Crew Lead component and 2) develop the Academic Year Internship Program to launch in Fall 2021.
