Launching our First Online Series: Green Heart at Home
A Message from The Green Heart Project Executive Director. Our response to COVID- 19 and launching Green Heart at Home.
Green Heart Family:
Throughout the Charleston community, we are all dealing with the stress and calamity brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our normal lives have been turned upside down.
As an organization, The Green Heart Project is doing its best to respond and adjust to this challenge. We are working with our partners at CCSD Nutrition Services to spread awareness of their “Grab and Go” meal pick ups. We are checking on our friends who live at the William Enston Home, home of our future Urban Farm, many of whom are elderly and therefore especially vulnerable to the coronavirus. Of course, the school gardens don’t stop growing! We are making sure that they are well maintained and ready for our students when they return to school.
And through it all, we are determined to provide Farm to School education to students from our partner schools and beyond. Just because we are at home, doesn’t mean we can’t do Green Heart! It is in this spirit that we are proud to announce the launch of an online video and activity series, Green Heart at Home. We hope families who are schooling at home can use these tools to engage their children in interactive activities centered on healthy food, healthy activity, and the natural environment.
The videos are produced by our very own program staff and garden staff, who are working hard to learn video production on the spot. We will be creating new content every week, so stay tuned on our social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) and our website blog for updates. Lastly, we would LOVE your feedback on this new project. Please reach out to us and let us know what you think of the content.
Wishing you and all those around you, health and safety during this time.
Sincerely,
Jesse Blom
