Good Bug, Bad Bug Garden Exploration

TODAY’S LESSON- GOOD BUG, BAD BUG GARDEN EXPLORATION

LESSON CONTENT: In today’s lesson, we will join Green Heart Project Farm to School Program Coordinator Allie and Garden Coordinator Rachel for a garden exploration activity focused on bugs!

In this lesson, students will:

Define the word ecosystem and understand what makes up our garden ecosystem
Learn the role of insects in our garden ecosystem
Learn the difference between “good” bugs (those that benefit our garden) and “bad” bugs (our garden pests)
Identify a variety of insects found in one of our Green Heart gardens and determine whether the insects that are found in the garden are good bugs or bad bugs

MATERIALS: For today’s lesson you will need:

A computer, iPad, phone or other digital device to watch the video
Your listening ears
A pen or pencil and piece of paper, if available, to make a T chart to track the results of our exploration
Coloring utensils if you want to draw and color the insects that we explore
