Spring is in the Air: A Season of Growth at The Green Heart Project

We can all feel it—spring is in the air in the Lowcountry! And while it’s just around the corner, we’re already prepping for it here at The Green Heart Project, of course. The days are getting longer, the soil is warming, and thanks to our newly activated greenhouse, we’re getting a head start on a season filled with growth, renewal, and fresh beginnings.
For the first time, we’re utilizing our greenhouse for a full growing season, and it’s already brimming with life. Farmer Sean has tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of spring crops well on their way—proof that new life is always just around the corner, even before the season officially changes. More than just an early peek at spring, the greenhouse represents something bigger: our commitment to planning ahead, nurturing growth, and ensuring that fresh, local produce is available to our community all year long.
A Greenhouse with a Purpose
At the heart of our Urban Farm at Enston Home, the greenhouse plays a crucial role in keeping our farm stand stocked and our community nourished. We know that fresh, healthy food is a basic need, and our weekly farm stand is a direct way to provide that for the residents of the nearby Enston Home community. While we supplement with produce from other local farms, the true star of the farm stand is always what we grow right here at Green Heart.
But to maintain a steady supply, we have to stay one step ahead of the seasons—which is exactly why the greenhouse is so important. Instead of waiting for warmer weather, we can start warm-weather crops early, ensuring an abundant harvest when the time comes. Every seedling sprouting in our greenhouse today is another step toward a bountiful season ahead.
A Season of Growth
Spring reminds us that growth takes time, intention, and care—whether we’re talking about plants, people, or communities. As we watch new life take root in the greenhouse, we’re also looking ahead to all the opportunities this season will bring: a flourishing farm, fresh harvests for our farm stand, and deeper connections with our neighbors.
Spring is in the air, and with it comes a fresh start and a promise of abundance ahead. Here’s to growing together! 🌱🌿
